Welcome to Lemon Cream Dreams, my name is Kayla. I’m a 30-something chef and food-enthusiast with a love for writing, and this is the space where all of those powers combine.
By day I work full-time as a Freelance writer, and by night I whip up pear galettes, experiment with sourdough breads, and manage to eat an entire homemade pizza by myself at least once a week. Oh, what a wonderful world.
For as long as I can remember I’ve had a deep love for food, as I am sure you have too if you find yourself here. In 2012, I officially retired from a career in digital advertising and relocated from New York City to my native Texas. During my time in New York, I was lucky enough to experience so many incredible restaurants from all types and styles of food, and when I returned to Texas I wondered if I could recreate some of my favorite dishes. It turns out that I could, and I felt so at home in the kitchen that I had to learn more.
We live in a wonderful era where YouTube can teach you just about anything, and I started there. I bought a few master classes online and eventually traveled Europe, where I was fortunate enough to attend cooking classes with some of the most talented chefs and artists who have honed a craft that has been passed down for centuries.
It has been a rewarding and fulfilling journey thus far, and I am thrilled that it has led me here to writing this page and having this moment with all of you. I can’t wait to share some of my favorite recipes, discover new elements of cooking, and ponder things like, why we as a society have left bread behind (a topic close to my soul, because… bread).
Thank you for being here,
